Ipad task
Making an Ipad application for Aftenposten. It’s great fun, but also very complicated and complex. A lot to consider and think about! I’m working with Kine on this task. We have decided to make a magazine for Ipad directed towards women. For each issue, one person is invited as guest editor and one as visual contributor. These two come with contributions that they think are important...

App for smart phone
These last three weeks we have been working on apps for smart phones. I decided to make a cleaning app for three people living in a shared apartment, this based on my own experiences. The app was going to work like a relay (from a relay race). You get the “relay” when it is your turn, it reminds you when it is time to clean and when you are finished cleaning you have to check out that...

New semester
A new semester with new possibilities… Now I am taking the course “Design for screen interactions”. Should be interesting! I have already challenged myself by getting a Twitter account, something I thought I never would do. It wasn’t all a good experience but I must admit that I got positively surprised by some of it. The private part of me is screaming, but I think...
Read this interesting article in Aftenposten and since it is a bit related to “The mirror of symptoms”… Remember to exercise your brain folks!

The mirror of symptoms
Today almost 50 000 Norwegians suffers from Alzheimer’s, and within 20 years scientists believe this number will have doubled. Alzheimer is a brain disease witch develops gradually and causing permanent impairment to the brain. It occurs most often in old age, but it can also affect people in their 50s. The Mirror of Symptoms visualize some of the many symptoms patients with Alzheimer’s can...
The making of
So at the end we had to give up our wish for 3 symptoms. We ran unfortunatly out of time so we didn’t manage to make the third code. The installation has now regular film, two symptom films and two physical neurons.
Getting up the walls and hanging up the first part of the neuron wallpaper.
In the end turning it into…

Testing the lights
Testing the code for the memory loss symptom
Concept
So, our concept is now a mirror which has four states, normal (healthy) and three different symptoms: think and move slower, confusion of time and place and memory loss. These four will be running by themselves in a loop. There will be three walls in the installation and these are going to be covered with “wallpaper” visualizing the neuron forest. We are also going to make three...
Simplify
We had a to days workshop with Fiona Romeo and Matt Brown where we go some good input on our project. They told us it was still needed to be better communicated and simpler. A suggestion they made was to concentrate on the symptoms since it is not quite clear what aqtually causes Alzheimer’s and how the braincells die. This was a great relief to us since we had a hard time make it...
neuron forest
Now we had the symptoms part figured out, but still had some trouble with how to show what happens in the brain. We wanted to explain that braincells (neurons) die and that it will damage the brain and its functions. Under research online we found some pictures and visualizations which inspired us…
This is braincells, or the neuron forest as it is called.

We made a rough video sketch to visualize our idea. The symptom visualized here is confusion with time and place. The small film in the left corner is suppose to be the user in front of the mirror and the large film shows what happens in the mirror.
So, where to go...
We talked a lot of what we wanted the users to learn, and figured they should get to know some of the symptoms and what happens in the brain. So, how to make this to an interactive exhibit? The idea of a type of mirror had come up several times under brainstorming and sketching and we also remembered that people love their own image. From this came the idea of a mirror where we could manipulate...
Dementia or Parkinson's?
We soon discovered that it’s difficult to convey these two diseases to exhibitions. We had a lot of sketching, brainstorming and discussion around the two and finally concluded that we felt dementia was the one we wanted to work with. One of the reasons was that this is a disease that many can relate to, there are many who know or did know someone with dementia. There are different types of...
Museums and spaces
On this last project of the course, Dag Helge Scott and I has once again teamed up to work together. This time the theme is museum and spaces and it is a collaboration with Norsk Teknisk Museum (Norwegian museum of science and technology). They gave us three different briefs and after some thinking and discussing we decided to go for the Mind the gap project. This is going to be a new exhibition...
Your secret is safe with Knurr
Technical
Getting the hardware to work and hiding it inside the toy …. Not the easiest thing!
It consisted of Arduino board, bend sensor, light sensor, speaker, battery and a whole lot of wires!
Since it was soon easter, what better way to hide some of the techincal stuff than in an easter egg?
Placing the speaker
Knurr
Knurr is your soft octopus friend with sound. He has a treasure room in his mouth where you can hide your favorite things or secrets. Knurr will be faithful and not let your annoying little sister inside. If you know the secret code, he will give you a happy sound. If you are not aware of the code and try to access the room, he will growl and let you know you are not welcome. Knurr is a working...
Process
We decided quite early in the process that we wanted to work with a soft toy and a character. After som sketching and discussing we ended up with a soft octopus with sound.
Sketch of the connections we were making
Physical computing- Interactive toy
I collaborated with Kristin Tobiassen on this project where the assignment was to make an interactive toy. In this part of the course we also learned about Arduino coding and connections. This was a challenge but very satisfying when something finally worked!
This is the video we made to evidence Versus
Versus- The game
So, the concept we ended up with was Versus
Versus is a digital tabletop game for two players or two teams. The game is a mix of Trivial Pursuit and Chess - where the theme is gangster versus mafia, and the main goal is to knock out all of your opponents pieces. Each turn you will be presented different questions you’ll have to answer correctly if you want to move your piece. The questions will...
Tabletop game process
Dag Helge Scott and I teamed up to make a tabletop game. In this process we conducted a workshop, had paper prototyping and evidencing.
As time goes by
So, I think it’s time to update a little bit here…

Analysis task
After a day of visiting museums we had to pick two installations and analyse them, this was done in collaboration with Dag Helge Scott. (See his blog: dagscott.tumblr.com)
We chose two from The Nobel Peace Center, here’s a short version of the result…
